as for my project, this week was pretty poor. after presenting my work in class last wednesday, i put the project in my locker, then took it out to work on it sunday. i had heard about an object in Max/MSP called csound~ which is basically all of csound in one Max object. that sounds redundant... anyway, nothing seemed to work! i couldn't get csound~ to read the MIDI control values i was sending from my flex sensors. i spent a fruitless day, i am now further behind than i was last week. boo. i did, however, start to learn about a synthesis technique called FOF, and plan to make some cool sounds over my spring break using it.

so, what to do next? back to the three basic components of my project:

  • explore two Max objects as fully as i can: sfplay~ and csound~
  • building the physical interface: do the darn thing and stop ruminating about it. buy six 12 x 12 pieces of wood and get to work making the cube. i'm going to try and get piano hinges for my flaps, since i'm going for an unfinished, perfectly smooth and symmetrical look for the box.
